James Edwin Stierle

STIERLE, JAMES EDWIN, 68, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013.

He was born on June 14, 1944, in Louisville. He was an avid tennis player, golfer and grandfather. He was a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, 3rd Squadron, and served as a B 52 pilot in Vietnam. He was a captain and received many medals and awards, including the Distinguished Flying Cross.

After serving in the military, he attended the University of Louisville law school. Jim was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, and practiced law with his father and brother. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha Evelyn Stierle and Edwin Henry Stierle; his sister-in-law, Billie Stierle; and his cousin, Bobby Hirsbrunner.

Jim is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lorena Mosier Stierle; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Stierle (Lorna); his daughter and son-in-law, London Summerville (Tim Herbert); five grandchildren, Micaiah, AnaSofia and Ethan Stierle and Evelyn and Charlotte Herbert; his brother, David Stierle and his cousin Paul Hirsbrunner (Vicki).

A service of celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Arch L. Heady Russman & Sons, 1201 E. Oak St. with interment at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, near Fort Knox, KY. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday.
