William David Bennett

David passed away in San Angelo, TX in an aircraft accident at the age of 26.  His son Charles also perished in the accident.  His wife Carolyn succumbed to cancer several years later.

In June 2012, we received the following in memory notice about David's passing from our classmate John Smart:

Graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1966. Married a classmate, Carolyn Conners a graduate of Atherton High School in Louisville. They had one son Charles. David joined the United States Air Force upon graduation and received his commission. He was a navigator and did his combat tour flying out of Thailand. He returned to the United States and was stationed at San Angelo Texas. David was flying a private plane with his son, neighbor and his child. An air traffic controller made a mistake and put the plane in the wrong landing pattern. He could not abort the landing and the plane crashed killing all on board. Carolyn and the neighbor's wife were at the airport when the crash occured. Carolyn and her son Charles were able to spend six months of David's combat tour with him in Thailand. Carolyn died a few years later from cancer.
