Virginia Louise Walsh

Virginia Louise WalshGinny's friend, Peggy Barrows (Margaret Barrows West), notified us of Ginny's passing in the summer of 2022. There was no obituary per se but here's what Peggy sent us.

This was written by Jennie Boyd, Ginny's friend in Lexington who sent it to Peggy.

"Virginia Walsh, 77, passed away on June 26, 2022. A native of Louisville, Virginia graduated from the University of Kentucky then worked for NASA as a computer programmer. She wanted to travel the world, so she worked as a flight attendant for Pan-Am Airlines, traveling to many destinations and earning an around the world ticket. She then returned to computer programming and worked for Citibank in Greece, Kenya, South Africa, and New York. She then earned her PhD in psychology from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and became a practicing psychologist in Chicago for many years. Virginia loved playing piano, classical music, her cats, and her friends. She was a kind and generous person who will be missed."

Also from Peggy Barrows West:

"There is no obituary according to Jennie Boyd who was the advocate and support for her during her last years when she was in a nursing home in Lexington. What I sent is something that Jennie wrote in place of an obit. I was in touch with Virginia only from the late 1990’s until she moved to nursing care. We were able to visit a few times during this period. The only picture I have is from 2000. I will see if I can locate it. I will also write to Jennie Boyd and copy you to see what pictures she might have. I stayed in touch with Jennie while Virginia was in nursing care but hadn’t seen her since our last in person visit in 2012 in Chicago where she was living at that time.

I have lived in Seattle, WA since 1966 when I moved here to go to graduate school. Virginia visited me here twice and we also visited a couple of times when work took me to Chicago.

Virginia died from what I think was most likely frontal temporal lobe dementia. Her brother Thomas also died of this several years ago. He lived in Louisville and graduated in the class of 1961. Virginia had some nieces and nephews but I do not know them or where they are. Virginia never married or had children. She had a very rich work life and had lived in Alabama, NYC, Greece, South Africa, San Francisco, North Carolina and Chicago. She was in nursing care in Lexington for about the last 5 or 6 years."
